Natural power of water
It is raining again. I keep looking to see if there is a rivulet in our yard, so far so good, no running water. I may be a bit paranoid now because a few weeks ago we had some incredible rain over several days. Sometime during the deluge, what later, after i dug it out, appeared to be the remains of a 4-5 foot tall evergreen washed down the waterway and lodged itself where the waterway bends as it runs between my yard and the neighbors. It proved to be an amazing dam and shunted an utterly unpleasant amount of water over (and through!) the berm that was there, washing out the end of it and putting retaining wall blocks up to 15 feet out into the yard. During the worst of the rain, our yard looked (and sounded!) like a small river. (picture above on the right).
The worst has not been repairing and rebuilding the berm, which was just a lot of digging and piling. The worst is all the muck, sand, leaves, sticks, and garbage that was left in the yard. The poor statuary in the picture on the left was originally on a little mound in a flower bed.
It rained again pretty much steadily all night last night and it appears that the work we have done so far has held up...but there is still MUCH more to get done. Then there is still the rest of the yard, house, garden and garage that need attention in a myriad of different ways!
